NEWS: MEET THE TEAM - HELEN WALKER

What has been one of the most unusual pieces of archive footage you have come across?

When I first joined Screenocean, I was aware of the depth and breadth of the archive but I did not expect there to be so much high fashion content! Thanks to Reuters we have amazing clips of Nineties Fashion Week catwalks in the archive, one of my particular favourites is this footage of Karl Lagerfield’s collection for Chanel at the 1996 Paris Fashion Week, featuring original supermodels Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell and Helena Christensen.

What would you say is your favourite time in history and why?

Before entering the world of archival footage, I would have said early modern Europe as I was - and continue to be - fascinated by the phenomenon of witch-hunting. I’ve since grown to love footage of post-war America, a seemingly disparate period but equivocal in its misogyny and unsettling nature: campy adverts encouraging rampant consumerism, disconcertingly perfect housewives and sterile suburbia.

Which Screenocean collection is your favourite and why?

I think it has to be either Historic Films or Clips & Footage because they have so many wonderfully camp Americana clips!

Tell us a little about your hobbies and interests

Outside work I can be found busying myself with hand embroidery projects in my art studio or taking my whippet Bernie for walks around leafy South East London.
